Lagos
State Telecommunications Project (LAGTEL)
The Lagos State Government through the representation
of Transnational Computer Technology bided for
and got a license at N450m to operate a fixed
wireless telecommunication services for voice
and data processing in Lagos.
LAGTEL will provide
communication services for the whole of Lagos
State, focusing specially on the inner cities
and rural areas at relatively affordable prices.
Zonal
Approach to all Year Round Streetlight Maintenance
The under listed streets have been identified
for the pilot scheme of the Agency approach to
streetlight maintenance:
- Iyana
Ipaja to Idimu
- Adeniji
Adele Road, Lagos
- Bajulaiye/
Igbobi Road, Somolu
- Ago
Palace Way, Okota
- Oko-Ago-Oba's
Palace, Ilogbo
- Kudirat
Abiloa Way, Oregun
- Secretariat
and its environs
- Festac
Llink Road, Amuwo-Odofin
Sector Reforms
The State Government Is contemplating major infrastructure
reforms jointly with the Private Sector and individual
Entrepreneurs that will return Lagos to its enviable
position. The goals will include:
- Improving
the Sector's productivity ability
- Increasing
the sector's productivity by reducing operating
cost and providing adequate incentive to attract
additional capital to the sector and maintain
the existing capital stock.
Some of the reforms outlined under this programme
are as follows: -
Highway Street Adoption
Scheme (HSAS)
This is an initiative for Private Sector Organizations
as socially responsible entities to buy into the
ownership of strategically located streets, as
demonstrated by Mobil Nig. Plc in Malu Road. HSAS
encourages private entities to identify any streets
of their choice for adoption as though they are
the owners of such streets for the purpose of
providing adequate maintenance and in return,
Government gives incentives to such organizations.
Objectives of the Highway/Street
Adoption Scheme (HSAS)
- To
create a means of ensuring the provision of
sustainable infrastructure.
- To
create a platform for the private sector to
discharge their corporate social responsibility
- To
provide an avenue for the public and private
sectors to co-share in the ownership of infrastructure.
- Alternate
utilization for scarce government resources
which otherwise would have been expended on
maintenance of infrastructure.
