Engineer Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson was born into the Johnson family of Lagos Island on 17 th June, 1952.
He attended the Municipal Council School, Port Harcourt for his primary education before proceeding to the famous St. Gregory College, Lagos and Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo where he obtained his O’level and A’level in 1970 and 1972 respectively.
He then proceeded to the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA where he obtained a B.Sc and M.Sc in Civil Engineering in 1980 and 1982.

Before returning from the USA, Engr. Johnson had a working stint with the Bechel Power Corporation, Norwalk USA between 1980 and 1983 where he was a Structural Engineer. While working with Bechel, he was involved with analysis and design of steel and concrete structures associated with nuclear plants.
On arrival in Nigeria, he joined the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as Engineer I in 1984 before joining the Lagos State Civil Service as Principal Engineer in 1987. He rose through the ranks in the Engineering cadre supervising the construction of many roads and bridges before his appointment as the General Manager of New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) in 1998 from where he was deployed to the then Public Works Bureau also as General Manager.
In the course of his career, Engr. Johnson was involved in the design and supervision of projects such as Igbonla Bridge at Epe, Opebi Link Bridge, Ikorodu Road Bridges, Ikola Bridge, network of roads at Lagos Island, network of roads at Surulere, rehabilitation of Agege Motor Road etc. During his tenure as the GM, NTDA, he presided over the actualization of internal reticulation of lekki Phase I and opening up of Isheri North Scheme and other Government Schemes. While he was the GM, Public Works Bureau, the mechanical weigh bridge of PWC was replaced with an electronic bridge and the capacity of the bitumen storage tank was increased from 75 metric tones to 200 metric tonnes.
It was due to his high pedigree that he was appointed as the pioneer Permanent Secretary of the Public Works Bureau in 2000.
While at the Public Works Bureau, he coordinated the general rehabilitation, maintenance and construction of over three hundred (300) roads that was the hallmark of the early days of the Tinubu Administration after the long neglect of the military.
Following the creation of the Office of Infrastructure in May, 2003, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson was deployed as the pioneer Permanent Secretary to supervise the construction, re-construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads in Lagos State, a position he has held until his present appointment with high integrity, astute leadership qualities and unequalled dedication to duty.
Engr. Johnson is a professional Engineer of the State of California, member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Fellow Institute of Structural Engineer and Fellow Nigeria Institute of Civil Engineers.
He is a member of the Board of LAMATA, Lagos State Roads, Bridges and Highways Infrastructure (PSP). He is also a member of the State Consultancy Board, State Tenders Board and chairman of the Technical Committee of the Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory.
Engr. Johnson is a devote Muslim and happily married with children.
